Their products support essential industries such as grocery, food processing, cold storage, pharmaceuticals, and specialty facilities that rely on advanced temperature-controlled systems. The Mechanical Designer will support a high-mix, custom manufacturing operation focused on specialized refrigeration equipment. This role blends hands-on engineering, cross-functional collaboration, and technical problem-solving. You will be leading the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and electro-mechanical systems while working closely with manufacturing, product management, and field service teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using modern CAD tools and configuration-based modeling

• Maintain accurate design files, documentation, and product structures within the company’s ERP/MRP system

• Understand key design interactions and critical characteristics to ensure reliable system performance

• Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, operations, and manufacturing to develop feasible, cost-effective designs

• Support sourcing teams with component selection, vendor collaboration, and manufacturing process evaluation

• Assist in prototype development, testing, and validation to ensure technical feasibility and performance requirements

• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

• Perform additional design or engineering tasks as needed

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Mechanical Design or related technical field

• 3+ years of experience designing mechanical and electro-mechanical products

• Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar)

• Experience designing sheet metal, weldments, injection-molded plastics, and extruded components

• Familiarity with PDM systems and revision-controlled workflows

• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals

• Experience with Design for Manufacturability principles

• Proven problem-solving skills and ability to navigate technical challenges effectively

• Ability to collaborate across departments and contribute to optimal design solutions

Preferred Skills

• Working knowledge of refrigeration systems, thermodynamics, or thermal performance

• Understanding of cost analysis, fabrication methods, and material selection

• Ability to use hand tools, measuring instruments, and testing equipment

• Experience working with engineering bills of materials and structured product data

• Exposure to ERP/MRP environments

• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5, GD&T, and basic FEA concepts

• Knowledge of regulatory or industry standards such as NSF, DOE, ETL, or UL
