Position Overview

The CAD Supervisor will lead a team of designers responsible for creating and maintaining 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation for a wide range of mechanical and electro-mechanical products. This role blends technical expertise with leadership, requiring someone who can develop standards, improve workflows, manage workload distribution, and cultivate a high-performing CAD team. This leader will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and sourcing teams to ensure accurate data, manufacturable designs, and consistent documentation across all product lines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of CAD Designers, providing coaching, training, workload planning, and performance feedback

• Establish and enforce CAD standards, modeling practices, file structures, and documentation requirements

• Oversee the creation and review of detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings

• Coordinate with engineering leadership to support project priorities, timelines, and resource planning

• Implement best practices for configuration modeling, revision control, and PDM/PLM workflows

• Ensure accuracy and consistency of design files, bill of materials, and engineering documentation within the ERP/MRP system

• Support the development of new products, product enhancements, cost-reduction initiatives, and change management activities

• Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and optimized for production

• Support prototype builds, design reviews, and engineering validation processes

• Drive continuous improvement across CAD processes, tools, and team performance

• Provide hands-on modeling and drawing support when needed

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

• 5+ years of CAD design experience working with mechanical or electro-mechanical products

• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred

• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent)

• Experience with PDM systems, modeling standards, and structured documentation practices

• Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, GD&T, and manufacturing processes

• Knowledge of sheet metal, weldments, plastics, and other common fabrication methods

• Familiarity with ERP/MRP product structure and engineering bill of materials

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and quality

• Demonstrated ability to lead teams through technical challenges and process improvements

Preferred Skills

• Experience in refrigeration, HVAC, thermal systems, or industrial equipment

• Exposure to ASME Y14.5 standards and FEA fundamentals

• Understanding of regulatory or certification requirements (UL, ETL, NSF, DOE)

• Background supporting both prototype development and steady-state production environments
