Job Title: Project Accountant
Location: Phoenix (Hybrid)
Compensation: $56,863 – $85,295 + Benefits
Schedule: Full-Time | Hybrid (Remote flexibility for highly qualified candidates)

They are seeking a Project Accountant to support project teams by ensuring accurate job costing, financial reporting, and cost tracking across active construction projects
Role Summary
The Project Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate project financials and job cost reporting. This position partners closely with Project Managers and the accounting team to ensure projects are set up correctly, costs are tracked properly, and financial data is accurate and compliant with accounting standards.
This role is responsible for job cost setup, contract documentation, cost analysis, and supporting project financial performance throughout the lifecycle of construction projects
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting & Job Cost Management
- Manage accurate setup, maintenance, and closure of jobs, phases, cost codes, budgets, and contracts
- Ensure OCIP/CCIP insurance designations and documentation are accurate and properly maintained
- Track and analyze job cost changes and evaluate their impact on project margins
- Capture, classify, and analyze project cost data to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Analyze labor, material, and project costs to identify productivity trends and margin drivers
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure timely job setup and financial alignment during month-end close
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare reports, dashboards, and analysis to support project and financial decision-making
- Investigate and resolve cost variances through detailed research and analysis
- Prepare GAAP-compliant journal entries to maintain accurate financial records
- Identify unallocated labor and partner with project teams to resolve discrepancies
Contract & Documentation Management
- Maintain contracts, change orders, tax documentation, and project files in organized master folders
- Review contract language to confirm proper tax status and required legal wording
- Ensure project documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant
Inventory & Internal Controls
- Support inventory accuracy through reconciliation, analysis, and physical inventory counts
- Maintain accurate inventory costs and quantities for fabrication shop materials when applicable
- Process inventory transfers related to project job costing
- Maintain documented procedures for inventory control processes
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Support
- Validate purchasing card expenses and ensure proper job cost coding
- Participate in initiatives focused on improving accounting processes and internal controls
- Support special projects, job cost research, and financial analysis as needed
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve operational efficiency and financial accuracy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally within construction or project-based environments
- Experience with job costing, general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and inventory accounting
- Familiarity with accounting platforms such as COINS, UltiPro, or Adaptive Insights preferred
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting best practices
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
