General Manager (Ship Repair Paint & Blast)
Tiello has partnered with a highly successful Prime Ship Repair Subcontractor in the greater Tidewater area (Norfolk/Chesapeake, VA) who is seeking an experienced General Manager to join their team to manage their paint and blast operations and scale their team in growth, diversity and expansion along the East Coast.
*This position will require travel as necessary with the operations expanding along the East Coast
*This person must have experience with BOTH ship repair and new construction specifically with paint/blast.
The General Manager develops and maintains positive customer relations by understanding customer needs, contract terms and conditions, and by implementing and executing plans to address those needs. The GM directs workforce in the execution of new construction and repair paint and blast services. Safety, Customer Service, Availability and Labor Relations are the areas of focus for this position. This position supports an onsite 24 hour, 7 day work week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for development, communication and execution of effective product and marketing strategies
- Analyze and manage products against defined metrics, goals and objectives. Use established data methods to evaluate objective to attain optimal growth & sustainment; tracks progress against targets to improve (TTI) activities for annual SDP. Redirect team to close gaps utilizing continuous improvement processes.
- Actively participate, lead, advise, or serve on committees, meetings, and cross functional teams (i.e., R&D, marketing, finance, continuous improvement events, operations, policy making, competitive information, customer activities, service gaps, professional organizations, and consumer groups).
- Facilitate meetings and workshops and deliver effective presentations at an executive level.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to all levels of the organization.
- Lead, monitor, guide, and coach people leaders/team to achieve business targets, implement change, products/marketing (strategic and tactical) and build sustainable customer relationships.
- Develop and cultivate strategic relationships with our customer.
- Continuously develop knowledge and skills to uphold and articulate the organizational strategy and principles of our company.
- Convey the Company’s quality vision to team members and customers and support their participation in the Company’s quality improvement effort.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be operation minded
- Must be experienced in new construction and ship repairs specific to coatings: paint and blast
- MUST be familiar with 009-32 Standard items and SSPC knowledgeable
- *This person has the availability to advance their career into Vice President over the next two years
- Ability to plan, organize and implement complex initiatives.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity, manage diversity and drive for results.
- Must have strategic agility, organizational ability, and successful track record for building effective teams.
- Thinks operationally and strategically, analyzes issues, uses sound judgment, generates new ideas/goes beyond the status quo.
