Tiello has partnered with a premier commercial mechanical contractor in the Dallas-Fort Worth market seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Service Technician to join its growing service operation.
This position is ideal for a technically strong commercial HVAC professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems and wants to continue expanding their expertise across VRF, chillers, controls, and advanced commercial HVAC equipment.
While direct VRF experience is highly preferred, it is not required. The company is willing to invest in training an experienced technician who brings strong commercial HVAC fundamentals, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and a genuine interest in becoming highly proficient with VRF technology.
Experience servicing chillers or other applied HVAC equipment is particularly desirable.
Position Overview
The Senior HVAC Service Technician will perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, startup, and repair of commercial HVAC systems throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
This individual will handle more technically challenging service calls while serving as a resource to customers and developing technicians.
The ideal candidate understands HVAC systems beyond simply replacing components. They can evaluate an entire system, interpret operating conditions, work through electrical and refrigeration issues methodically, and determine the true root cause of equipment problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair complex commercial HVAC systems
- Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections
- Troubleshoot refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues
- Service and support VRF/VRV systems throughout commercial facilities
- Support equipment startup, commissioning, and system optimization
- Diagnose compressor, refrigerant circuit, electronic expansion valve, sensor, communication, and controls issues
- Service chillers and other applied HVAC equipment based on experience
- Evaluate system performance and identify root causes of recurring equipment problems
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, mechanical drawings, and manufacturer documentation
- Utilize manufacturer diagnostic software and service tools
- Communicate technical findings and repair recommendations clearly to customers and internal teams
- Maintain accurate service documentation and equipment records
- Coordinate with Project Managers, service leadership, manufacturers, and field personnel as needed
- Assist developing technicians with advanced troubleshooting and technical questions
- Participate in manufacturer and factory training programs
Equipment & Systems
Depending on project and customer needs, technicians may support equipment including:
- Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF/VRV) systems
- Air-cooled chillers
- Water-cooled chillers
- Packaged rooftop units
- Split systems
- Heat pumps
- Air handling units
- Pumps and hydronic systems
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Commercial HVAC controls
- Associated electrical and refrigeration components
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
- Strong refrigeration cycle knowledge and diagnostic capabilities
- Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to diagnose complex commercial HVAC equipment independently
- Strong understanding of compressors, motors, refrigerant circuits, controls, sensors, and related components
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
- EPA Universal Certification
- Valid driver`s license with an acceptable driving record
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a larger service team
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience servicing VRF/VRV systems
- Experience with Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, Samsung, or other major VRF platforms
- Chiller service experience strongly preferred
- Experience with air-cooled and/or water-cooled chillers
- Experience with large-tonnage or applied commercial HVAC equipment
- Factory startup or commissioning experience
- BAS and controls troubleshooting experience
- Manufacturer certifications or advanced HVAC technical training
- Previous Lead Technician or Senior Technician experience
Don`t Have VRF Experience?
We`re interested in speaking with experienced commercial HVAC technicians who have the technical foundation to learn it.
If you`ve built your career servicing chillers, large commercial HVAC equipment, complex refrigeration systems, or controls-heavy equipment and are interested in expanding into VRF technology, this opportunity offers the training and exposure to do exactly that.
The priority is finding someone with strong fundamentals, excellent troubleshooting instincts, and the curiosity to continue developing technically.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is the technician other technicians call when they can`t figure something out.
You`re methodical when troubleshooting, understand how the mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and controls sides of an HVAC system interact, and would rather identify the actual cause of a failure than simply replace parts until something works.
You may already be highly experienced with VRF, or you may come from a strong chiller/applied equipment background and want to add VRF expertise to your skill set.
This organization is looking for someone who can bring significant technical capability to the team today while continuing to develop into an even stronger commercial HVAC professional.
Physical & Work Environment Expectations
- Field-based position supporting commercial customers throughout Dallas-Fort Worth
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, equipment yards, and active commercial facilities
- Ability to climb ladders and safely access HVAC equipment
- Ability to lift and handle tools, equipment, and replacement components as required
- Ability to work safely around electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems
- Occasional after-hours or emergency service support may be required
