Tiello has partnered with a well-established and growing manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead day-to-day operations at its Manteca, CA facility.
This is a highly visible leadership position with responsibility for approximately 65 employees across manufacturing operations, assembly, roll forming, shipping, and receiving. The Plant Manager will own operational performance and facility P&L while developing leaders, improving processes, and creating greater alignment across departments.
While manufacturing experience is important, this organization is especially focused on finding the right leader. The ideal candidate knows how to earn the trust of an established team, make thoughtful decisions, hold people accountable, and create meaningful operational improvements without walking in and assuming everything needs to change.
Position Overview
The Plant Manager will have overall responsibility for the performance of the Manteca operation, with direct oversight of manufacturing and logistics functions.
This individual will lead through an existing management structure that includes an Operations Manager, departmental supervisors/leads, and shipping leadership while working closely with engineering, sales, customer service, and corporate leadership.
The Plant Manager will be expected to understand what already works within the facility, identify opportunities for improvement, and build processes that combine local strengths with broader organizational best practices.
This is ultimately a people-first operations leadership role. The company has strong technical resources already in place. What they need is someone who can lead the facility, develop its people, create accountability, and bring teams together around a common direction.
Key Responsibilities
Plant & Operational Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day manufacturing and plant operations
- Provide leadership across assembly, roll forming, shipping, receiving, and associated operational functions
- Lead and develop the Operations Manager, Supervisors, Leads, and other facility personnel
- Establish clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, communication, and accountability
- Maintain visibility on the plant floor and develop strong relationships throughout the workforce
- Evaluate workflows and identify opportunities to improve productivity, communication, and efficiency
- Ensure operational teams have the information, resources, and support necessary to perform successfully
- Address operational issues proactively rather than allowing problems to become embedded in the organization
- Balance hands-on leadership with empowering managers and employees to own their responsibilities
Financial & Business Performance
- Own and manage facility P&L performance
- Monitor operating expenses, labor, productivity, and overall plant performance
- Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning
- Utilize operational data and KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Develop action plans to improve efficiency and financial performance
- Maintain accountability for facility-level operational results
- Support business decisions with a strong understanding of both financial and operational impact
People Leadership & Culture
- Build a strong, unified culture across the Manteca facility
- Develop trust with long-tenured employees while establishing clear leadership expectations
- Coach, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and emerging leaders
- Hold employees and leaders accountable while maintaining a fair, respectful leadership approach
- Address performance or cultural challenges directly and constructively
- Create an environment where employees feel heard while ensuring decisions support the overall business
- Encourage collaboration between departments and other company locations
- Help continue building a one-company mentality across the organization
Process Improvement
- Evaluate existing operational processes before implementing changes
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and communication gaps
- Develop and implement sustainable process improvements
- Determine which existing practices should be preserved and where new approaches will improve performance
- Collaborate with leadership at other company locations to share best practices
- Help standardize processes where appropriate without losing practices that make the Manteca operation successful
- Promote continuous improvement throughout the facility
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Engineering and Maintenance leadership to support plant performance
- Work alongside Shipping and Operations leadership on production and logistics priorities
- Collaborate with sales and customer-facing teams to ensure operational execution supports customer requirements
- Coordinate with company leadership on organizational initiatives and strategic priorities
- Support broader initiatives designed to improve alignment between company locations
Note: Engineering and maintenance have dedicated leadership and will not directly report to the Plant Manager. The Plant Manager will, however, work closely with these functions to ensure strong overall facility performance.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience within manufacturing, plant operations, production, logistics, or a related environment
- Previous Plant Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager, Production Manager, or comparable leadership experience
- Proven experience leading managers, supervisors, and hourly employees
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and production environments
- Experience with P&L responsibility, budgeting, or significant operational financial accountability
- Demonstrated success improving processes and operational performance
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively lead established teams through organizational and operational change
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading a manufacturing operation of approximately 50–100+ employees
- Background in metal manufacturing, fabrication, roll forming, building products, or related manufacturing environments
- Experience overseeing both manufacturing and shipping/logistics operations
- ERP experience
- Familiarity with NetSuite ERP is highly preferred but not required
- Experience integrating processes across multiple facilities or business units
- Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process optimization experience
- Experience leading teams through periods of organizational growth or cultural change
