Tiello is seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to support design-build and retrofit projects. This role focuses on producing detailed, code-compliant designs, submittals, and permit drawings for local upfits, tenant improvements, and small-scale commercial projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, well-versed in NFPA standards and permitting processes, and thrives in a collaborative team environment with project managers, engineers, and field crews.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and layout fire sprinkler systems for renovations, tenant improvements, and small commercial projects
- Develop permit-ready submittal drawings in compliance with NFPA codes, AHJ requirements, and local regulations
- Perform hydraulic calculations to verify system performance criteria
- Generate material lists, equipment specifications, and project documentation
- Coordinate with AHJs to streamline approvals and permitting
- Provide field teams with design clarifications, adjustments, and sketches as needed
- Support estimating by reviewing designs and assisting with cost analysis
- Participate in project reviews, pre-submittal meetings, and job cost discussions
- Communicate project updates, schedules, and challenges with customers and internal stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- NICET Level II (or higher) in Fire Sprinkler Layout or ability to obtain
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SprinkCAD, or similar design software
- Knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20 and related building codes
- Ability to create permit-ready submittal drawings with accuracy
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing small-scale commercial upfits, retail, or office renovations
- Familiarity working with fire marshals, AHJs, and permitting offices
- Previous field experience in fire sprinkler installation or inspections
