Tiello is partnered with a leading Division 7 specialty contractor providing expert thermal and moisture protection solutions, including roofing, waterproofing, insulation, and air barrier systems. Recognized for delivering high-quality workmanship and innovative solutions, they partner with top general contractors, owners, and developers nationwide. The company is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their team and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, operations, and project teams.
Role Summary:
The Legal Counsel will oversee all legal matters impacting the company, from contracts and compliance to dispute resolution and risk management. This role will work closely with executives, operations, and project teams to proactively protect the company’s interests while enabling efficient project delivery and growth. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of construction law—particularly in Division 7 scopes—and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Project TypeS:
Division 7 construction projects including roofing, waterproofing, insulation, and air barriers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including subcontracts, purchase agreements, NDAs, and client service agreements.
- Advise leadership and project teams on legal rights, obligations, and risk exposure related to construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including construction-specific regulations, safety requirements, and licensing.
- Manage claims, liens, disputes, and litigation, partnering with outside counsel as needed.
- Provide guidance on insurance requirements, bond claims, and indemnity provisions.
- Support corporate governance matters, including entity management and policy updates.
- Proactively identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Stay current on legal developments in the construction industry and Division 7 specialties.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice in [State] or ability to obtain it.
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally in construction law, commercial contracting, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of Division 7 scopes (roofing, waterproofing, insulation, air barriers, etc.) highly preferred.
- Exceptional negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver practical legal solutions quickly.
- Experience working with executives, project managers, estimators, and field teams.
